About, me and family photography
My interest in family photography and portraits began when I was in my late teens. Which is not today or yesterday!. Throughout my life I have always had a camera. I grew up in a family that embraced photography. As a result, we have lovely photographs, recording our childhood. I believe photographs are for today. But they become even more valuable with the passing of time. I feel lucky to be a part of that with every family I work with. I often get to go back to families again and again, and see their families grow! It is such a privilege!!
Why
I have lots of memories throughout my life. Many were formed from the emotions I experienced at the time. So I remember the big events. Others are triggered by photographs. Photographs are so valuable not just to record a picture of that time, but all that came with it, the emotion.
I think of my children now, and how much they have changed since they were babies. I would love even more images of them, their little features etc. Photographs are not priceless, but the emotions they bring are.
Photographs are priceless sometimes, when that person is no longer with us. I treasure those photographs myself and would hate anything to happen to them.
Education
A few years ago, (after 6 years in university, 15 years working in sales and 3 years as a stay at home mum of my 3 children), I decided to finally follow my passion. I enrolled in a 3rd level course in photography in Pearse college . I have not looked back since. It was the the best move I could have made.
While studying, I worked with Sinead Feeney Photography This was a great experience, and encouraged me to set up my own business. I have continued to educate myself with additional workshops including newborn workshops with Newborns by Lidi and Amanda Hatton and I continue to educate myself within my photography networks including Muintearas and the Female photographers network. Both groups have amazing female photographers and we continue to help and support each other, as well as continue our education.
I love what I do. I am passionate about capturing life at home, those moments and expressions that you think you will never forget, but you do. It is a privilege for me to meet all these fantastic families and to capture their portraits at this time in their lives, whatever stage they are at.
